DATO PADUKA HAJI MURNI BIN HAJI MOHAMED

PLANNING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT


Haji Murni was appointed the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office in August 2008. He has the responsibilities of overviewing the Departments of Planning, Policy and Coordination, Implementation of Statistics and Administration & IT; formulate, implement and review the Brunei Long-Term Development Plan; review strategic policy areas in HRD, R&D, Poverty, Food Security and prepare the economic outlook.

Haji Murni started his career as an Economic Officer in the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), State Secretariat (January 1980). He was promoted as Senior Economic Officer in 1986 and subsequently the Director of EPU in 1999. He was seconded to the Secretariat, Brunei Darussalam Economic Council (BDEC), as one of the Directors between March 2000 to September 2001, to implement programmes under the economic recovery packages and other strategies recommended in the BDEC report.  In 2001, he was appointed Deputy Director General, Department of Economic Planning and Development. He was then seconded as the Deputy CEO, Brunei Economic Development Board in July 2002. In August 2007, Haji Murni was appointed as Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office.

Haji Murni was part of the consulting team commissioned by the ADB to prepare the BIMP-EAGA Investigative Report for Brunei Darussalam 1995-1996. He has also been in the work placement at the IMF, Washington DC from Oct 1997- April 1998.

Haji Murni holds a BA (Hons) Economics from Wolverhampton and  MA Development Studies (Economic Planning and Policy), from the Institute of Social Studies, the Hague, Netherlands.

Haji Murni is  a Board Member of BSP, BLNG, Petroleum Brunei, BEDB and Insurance Islam TAIB.  He has been awarded with PJK (1989), PIKB (1992), PSB (1994).
